The spiral arms of the galaxy are draped across the inspirational image behind the artwork, from the constellation Vela, originally part of the far larger, Argo Navis. As befits a galaxy in a nautically inspired constellation, named after the mythological ship Argo, the outer edges almost resemble a ship’s billowing sails.
